Watanuki has the ability to see youkai, which is more of a curse than a blessing for him, as he is harassed and persecuted by them. In order to get his greatest wish fulfilled, that of not being able to see any more youkai, he begins to work for her and thus comes more and more into contact with the world of the supernatural.
Living alone, Watanuki is very independent for his age and has strong culinary skills, much to the delight of those around him, whom he regularly provides with food.
